Manual Software Update

If you are updating a PilotAware unit to software version 201906021, you will need to perform a 'Manual software update' . If you require a new SD card with the latest software version preloaded onto it, you can purchase one here.

The following instructions give a step by step process into the updating of PilotAware through the 'manual software update'.

  1. If you feel comfortable reformatting your current SD card, please continue on. However, if you don't feel comfortable reformatting your current PilotAware SD card, consider purchasing a new MicroSD card and continue from step 8.   2. Record all of the configuration settings and profiles currently on the PilotAware unit. Performing this update will wipe the SD card of all configurations, tracks and profiles.

  3. Download and install the SD card formatter program using the following link .  Download SDFormatter.

  4. Follow the installation instructions and start the SD Formatter program on your computer.

  5. Power off the PilotAware unit, and remove the MicroSD card from the end of the PilotAware.The Classic unit require you to push gently on the SD card to unlock the mechanisum. Rosetta users can gently pull on the SD card.

  6. Using a MicroSD card adaptor, (this can either be to a standard SD card or USB), plug the SD card into your computer.

  7. Formatting the SD card.
    1. In the SD Formatter tool, select the drive that represents the MicroSD card. This card is usually called 'Recovery', however, this can vary so be careful which drive you choose. 
    2.  Select the FORMAT TYPE dropdown and choose 'Full Overwrite'.
    3. Double check that the correct drive has been chosen in the SD Formatter tool and click 'Format'.
    4. Double check that the correct drive has been chosen in the SD Formatter tool and click 'Format'.
    5. This formatting will take several minutes depending on the size of the SD card being formatted. You must not remove the SD card while the SD card is performing an overwrite format.
    6. Once the format has finished, close the 'SD Card formatter' tool. 

  8. Download the latest PilotAware installation image. Download the latest version of PilotAware.

  9. Using a MicroSD card adaptor, (this can either be to a standard SD card or USB), plug the SD card into your computer.
  10. Once the download is complete, unzip the file and click down to the Root files. There should be 25 items in the root file.Copy all 25 items onto the SD card and wait for the computer to transfer the files across. This can take approximately 2-3 minutes.

  11. Eject the MicroSD card safely from the computer once the file transfer is complete, and remove the MicroSD card from the MicroSD card adaptor.

  12. Push the MicroSD card into the card reader into the PilotAware.

  13. Apply a suitable power supply to PilotAware and leave the PilotAware to unpack the new software. This takes approximately 20 minutes. Do Not Power Off PilotAware while the PilotAware is unpacking the SD card as it will corrupt the disk. Once the PilotAware has finished unpacking the SD card, it will start transmitting a Wifi signal and the bridge will start flashing in an alternating Red and Green pattern.
